About the Farmer

Following up on the state highway BR262 from the state’s capital and port town of Vitoria, the car takes on beautiful windy mountain roads ascending into the town of Venda Nova do Imigrante. The Italian descendent town of twenty thousand is smack in the middle of the 14 municipalities that grow Arabica coffees in the state. With the moisture formed on the coast sticking in these mountains, the humidity levels are constantly high making the nights cold and the days as well. The rocky, mineral soil creates a clean crisp, and high acidity forward coffees that have a floral touch. Surrounded by lots of forests, adding to the richness of his soil and cool weather, his coffees have a bright acidity and a classic brown sugar taste.

This coffee comes from the micro-region of Ranchos Dantas, it is produced by Rafael and his father in their farm which bears the name of the terroir of their coffee, Sitio Rancho Dantas. It is our long-time partner Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza who selects the micro-lots from this farm located near the town of Brejetuba. This region is perhaps the best example of the unique terroir of Espirito Santo. Surrounded by forests, with very rich soil and a cool climate, its coffee trees give a cup with lively acidity and a taste of cane sugar.
