About the Farmer

Taking the Brasilian state highway BR262 from the port-town capital of Vitoria, the car ascends beautiful windy mountain roads into the town of Venda Nova do Imigrante. This Italian descendent town of twenty thousand is located in the middle of the 14 nearby mountain municipalities, known for growing Arabica coffees.
With the constantly forming ocean-mist sticking to the mountains, the humidity levels are naturally high, resulting in cool days and nights. These conditions; combined with rocky, mineral soil and surrounding abundant forests, create clean and crisp, high acidity coffees that have a fascinating floral touch with a delicious brown sugar taste.

This coffee comes from the micro-region of Ranchos Dantas. It is produced by Rafael and his father on their family farm, bearing the name of the terroir of their coffee, Sitio Rancho Dantas. Our long-time partner, Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, especially selected the micro-lots from this special farm located near the town of Brejetuba. This region is perhaps the best example of the unique terroir of Espirito Santo. Surrounded by forests, with very rich soil and a cool climate, it's trees give a cup with lively acidity and a taste of caramelized cane sugar.
