About the Farmer

Oscar Daza, owner of Finca La Pradera in Aratoca (in the region of Santander), has taken over the family farm from his father, José Rosario Daza. Today he heads a group of eight farms, four of which belong to his family.
All of his farms are certified organic and Bird Friendly. He is the first in the region to finance his own organic certification, usually paid for by the Federation. It was this entrepreneurial temperament that pushed him to become independent and seek his own customers, to therefore be free to make his own decisions and manage his production in line with his own vision.
He explained to us his great faith in shade production increasing the quality of his coffee, and we counted no fewer than 15 different tree species. His agroforestry system goes against the Federation’s recommendations, but he stands firmly by it. Despite a few difficult years of battling with the Federation, Oscar has finally found his own customers and now sells more than 60% of his production directly for export.

The Santa Maria farm belongs to Oscar Daza, it is located in the Santander region near the town of Aratoca. This farm is entirely run by women. The producer is a woman, the picking is done by women, the coffee is processed by women and the farm is certified as "Manos de Mujeres".
