About the Farmer

Over the years, Kilimbi became an award-winning station. In 2020, it was the only one that produced Honeys. Round about 750 smallholder farmers are working together with the washing station, under the Managing director Joseph Ntarindwa. The production is aprox. 300-350 tons of cherries per year. Further to this, Kilimbi is the first CWS in Rwanda to successfully produce black and red honey processed coffee.

The Kilimbi Washing Station is also located in Nymasheke, in the western providence of Rwanda, on an altitude of 1650 - 1850 masl. Founded in 2016, it was one of the first washing stations in Rwanda’s history to produce and export Natural and Honey processed coffee legally. Kilimbi has won many awards and coffees processed at this station have been used in both regional and international barista competitions. Today Rwanda is known as one of the specialty coffee world’s preferred. The majority of Rwanda’s coffee production is Arabica, bourbon variety plants comprise 95% of all coffee trees cultivated in Rwanda. Additionally, the first Rwandan Cup of Excellence was held in 2008 and has since then only continued to gather traction and interest for the country’s exceptional Bourbon coffees.
