About the Region

Aponte, Nariño, Colombia Nestled between 1,700 and 2,100 meters above sea level in Tablón de Gómez, Aponte is home to an independent indigenous reserve with its own language, governance, and rich cultural heritage.

A couple of decades ago, this region was isolated and dominated by illicit crops. In a powerful act of reclamation, the community joined forces to replace these crops with traditional agriculture and specialty coffee. Today, the mineral-rich clay loam and volcanic ash soils, combined with crisp mountain air, make it one of the most exciting and celebrated micro-regions for specialty coffee in the world.

About the Coffee

This microlot is a collaboration of approximately 200 dedicated smallholder farmers, each tending to plots of just 0.5 to 1.5 hectares.

These producers are Colombia’s pioneers in Honey processing, having mastered the technique since 2017. The processing succeeds beautifully here due to the region's unique climate:

  • Slow, Controlled Drying: Very low relative humidity and cool temperatures allow the mucilage to dry evenly without spoiling.
  • Micro-Batch Quality: Because farmers process small volumes, they can give obsessive attention to detail to every single batch.
